We want to ensure that the community benefits as much as possible from its proximity to London Stansted as a major international airport. We work with the community in schools, education, sport, employment, skills training and other projects that have a real impact on people’s lives.
Over £100,000 was donated to hundreds of local community projects and initiatives in 2016/17 through two categories of funding:
Stansted Airport Passenger Community Fund
Stansted Airport Passenger Community Fund donates money (up to £1500) to local causes within a 20 miles radius of Stansted Airport. The money donated by the committee is raised from passengers’ and staff’s unwanted foreign currency which is collected in the terminal. Consideration will be given to requests from sports clubs, pre-school nurseries, junior sports clubs, brownies, guides, clubs, elderly and animal charities.

The Stansted Airport Passenger Community Fund recently awarded the Essex Stragglers Orienteering Society, based in the Halstead, £1000 to help the club continue the work they do in the development of junior orienteering in the local area. Liz Brassington from the Committee met junior orienteers from Ramsey and St Andrew’s Primary, Halstead, Steve Partridge and Colin West, club chairman, who received the cheque on behalf of the club.
Essex Stragglers have been working with children and young people from schools in the Halstead area for some years now, running coaching sessions and after school clubs as well as supporting the juniors at local, national and international orienteering events. In addition to a popular schools league, club volunteers also run an annual Schools Orienteering Festival. This year around 1500 children and young people from schools throughout north Essex will take part. The festival is followed by a series of informal competitions in local parks where families can participate in familiar surroundings.
The club also support talented elite juniors. Oliver Prince from St Andrew’s CofE Primary is the current Under 10 British Champion. Daisy Partridge, Hedingham School, has competed for England on several occasions and will represent the UK at the World Schools Championships in Sicily in April. Local schools have won regional and national competitions. The funding provided by the Stansted Airport Passenger Community Fund will allow the club to continue this support.
Stansted Airport Community Trust
Stansted Airport Community Trust supports capital projects which protect and enhance the social, economic and environmental well being of the community within a 10 miles radius of Stansted Airport. The fund is financed by Stansted Airport and any aircraft noise fines.
