Volunteers from Stansted Airport’s Community Network initiative have been out in the community offering careers advice to students at two local high schools.
The panel of volunteers which included staff from Harrods Aviation and The Hilton Hotel have guided students from Harlow’s Stewards Academy and the Sawston Village College in Cambridgeshire through a job interview process and offered tips on how to land that very first post.
Helen Care from the Stewards Academy said: “The feedback I have received from students and staff has all been very positive. I really do appreciate all the support you have given Stewards Academy.”
Feedback was also excellent for the event held at Sawston Village College. “The day was a great success and the airport was well represented,” said volunteer Garth Evans.
Each student taking part had to write letter of application and update their CV, which were passed onto the pseudo employers ready for the interview. Afterwards the students received verbal and written feedback.
Joanne Davies, Stansted’s Education Co-ordinator, said:

“As part of our commitment to inspire a generation of young people we are building an on-site education centre, expand our apprenticeship programme and role out new work experience schemes and community outreach activities,” she said.
The Community Network initiative encourages local businesses to take part in airport community projects with the aim to improve business relationships, foster close collaborative working and help make the local community around the airport a more vibrant place to live and work.
