London Stansted Airport is a key catalyst for economic growth and productivity in the East of England. We are keen to ensure that business in our community benefit from the airport’s economic contribution and long term success.
We want everyone to share in the success and benefit from the new and exciting vision M.A.G is bringing to Stansted. With a growing international airport on the doorstep, a thriving entrepreneurial spirit and more small and medium sized businesses than Scotland and Northern Ireland combined, this region has a lot to offer the UK Plc and this is where ‘Meet the Buyers’ event can help.
Meet the Buyers event
Widely regarded as the biggest procurement event in the East, Stansted Airport ‘Meet the Buyers’ took place on Thursday, October 3, 2013. The quick-fire meeting concept of Meet the Buyers enables local firms to pitch their products and services to a group of carefully selected senior buyers with multi-million pound buying requirements
Companies attending included the Ministry of Defence, UK Power Networks, Essex & Suffolk Water, the Ministry of Defence , Uttlesford and East Herts District Councils and Suffolk and Norfolk County Councils.
Record breaking business deals totalling £323,000 were generated by firms in the first six weeks following last year’s lucrative London Stansted ‘Meet the Buyers’ event – a huge 50% increase on the 2012 event. The follow up research conducted after ‘Meet the Buyers’ 2013 also estimates that over £1.5 million of new contracts will be generated by firms in the East of England from the money-spinning event.
Technology firm Green Duck Ltd, a supplier from Bury St Edmunds, said ‘Meet the Buyers’ helped them win a £1,000 training contract, while sign maker, IRS Girod from Swaffham in Norfolk, came away with several leads and a deal worth £100,000.
Seasoned attendee Terry Farthing from Stansted based Airport Lettings, won two contracts with suppliers and declared that it was “without doubt the most profitable day we have ever had at any Meet the Buyers”.
Mark Prisk, MP for Hertford and Stortford spoke about the event’s benefits:
“I have a firm view that a key driver for the economic recovery of the country will come from the growth generated by SME’s. ‘Meet the Buyers’, hosted by London Stansted Airport, is intended to help small local companies secure contracts to supply goods and services to larger organisations. I strongly welcome this initiative from them. Last year’s ‘Meet the Buyers’ proved very successful, I am sure that they will be seeking to build on this.”
Cllr Tony Jackson, Leader, East Herts District Council, said:
“Meet the Buyers is a very worthwhile event and gives SMEs from East Herts a platform to branch out and tap into the wider market place.”
Simon Jackson from Uttlesford District Council said:
“While the economy remains in a fragile state, there is not a better opportunity to meet quality businesses in such a short space of time.”
Suffolk County Council Leader, Mark Bee, said:
“Suffolk County Council’s key priority for the coming year is to support economic growth and jobs in our region. We are delighted to be attending ‘Stansted Meet the Buyers’ again this year and hope to engage with a diverse supplier base to explore opportunities that may be available to us all. Local government is responsible for a significant part of public spending, and I believe it is only right that we are expected to play our part in finding more efficient ways to do this.”
The figures clearly demonstrate that ‘Meet the Buyers’ is a valuable business and networking event for both buyers and suppliers from across the East of England.
We would like to take this opportunity to encourage our on-airport business partners to take part in this year’s London Stansted Airport Meet the Buyers event on 2 October 2014.
M.A.G is committed to working with our on-airport partners and this event provides an ideal opportunity for airport companies and local suppliers to meet and explore new business leads. The format will be based on facilitated face to face meetings and will also include opportunities to hear from the airport’s senior management and our business partners on the key challenges facing the airport.
If you would like to participate as buyers, we will reserve a ‘purchasing booth’ for you. There is no charge for reserving a booth. We will then arrange meetings with potential local suppliers. If you would like to attend as suppliers we will arrange meetings with potential buyers. In both cases suppliers and buyers will be matched to your requirements, making the most effective use of your time.
Alternatively, your company could be one of the sponsor at the event giving you exposure to hundreds of regional businesses.
These events form part of our commitment to ensure that local businesses gain a better understanding of the opportunities that might be available to them at the airport and offers an opportunity to network with key regional business. We look forward to welcoming you on board.
